Potential Positivity of TV on Career Paths

We know that all things we see and interact with have affects on us in a variety of ways. This is especially true of the growing forms of media and entertainment to folks of all ages. The TV side of the story is especially impact-ful, as we can easily see in toddlers as they sing along to Little Einsteins to the older generations watching the 11 o'clock news...even when from behind closed lids. More specifically, there is that middle bracket of age between high school and college life. My post-graduate career dreams have altered and shifted over the course of those crazy years, but I can certainly say that now (having landed in an English-focused mindset), I am grateful for certain very specific characters from television shows throughout my years so far that have guided me this direction! The most interesting thing to me about this subject is how very unrelated it may have seemed at the time, but the clear correlations that close friends and my parents have even pointed out to me on the subject!
Here are just a few examples. Between the Lions was possibly one of the best shows ever; and if I am ever so lucky as to catch that one on a replay one afternoon, you better believe I will be taking a seat and enjoying the funny characters and their very insightful lessons! When still very young (before really understanding any details about the writer's realm), I was known to ask for this show often. When it came on, I would always watch the characters with focused attention, with a pen and paper in hand to write down each word that came up on the screen.
Another show that impacted me from youth was Blue's Clues. Steve and Blue were very good friends of mine, and we would chat often. I loved drawing the pictures and thinking about the clues as the show went along and thinking about potential outcomes...which I can now relate to my love of finding the pattern in any type of story, and putting it all together into something that makes so much magical sense.
A third television character that I would be wrong not to bring up is certainly Lucy from that uniquely wonderful show, "I Love Lucy". My love of her bright smile, welcoming personality, and hilarious thoughts/conversations started at a young age from my place next to Grandma on the couch, all the way through today. Her positive attitude has inspired me to keep moving forward and be joyful in all circumstances...or at least find ways to laugh at it later! Her miraculous story-building, -bending, and -bringing style of speech definitely made me grow in love of the whole English/writing field all the more.
These characters, among others, have certainly shaped my path in funny yet indefinite ways. Among other characters, they will always be dear to me as the memories bring smiles even when not playing on the screen. I am grateful for the positive effects TV can have, even for children of a young age. Now, as I continue my writing journey, I look forward to finding more ways to use my chosen career directions to bring joy to others, whether it be by helping them to facilitate their innate skill of story-telling through a tutoring session or by reminding others of good memories through a story of my own.
